The Media Failed to Prepare Americans for the Trump Whiplash: “The policy stakes of this election were never adequately conveyed by the political press.”

Trump

Congratulations, America — you did it! An actual fascist is now your official president

Trump signed an executive order resurrecting both the Dakota Access and Keystone XL Pipelines. Trump is still an investor in Energy Transfer Partners, and Rick Perry is still on its board of directors.

Trump dogged by insecurity over popular vote, media coverage

Trump claims that between 3 and 5 million people voted illegally in the presidential election. This is a lie, but Sean Spicer wouldn’t refute it, and Mitch McConnell backed him up, saying, “It does occur. There are always arguments on both sides about how much, how frequent and all the rest.”

The USDA can no longer publish its research any “public-facing documents”

The EPA’s grants have been frozen and its staff can no longer speak to the public. Also today, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality said that Flint’s water system no longer has levels of lead exceeding the federal limit. Since staff can’t speak to the public, we don’t know whether lead levels actually dropped or the limit was quietly changed.

NIH staff have been told to cease communications with the press and Congress. WTF.

Badlands National Park Twitter account goes rogue, starts tweeting scientific facts. Let that headline sink in for a minute. Communicating facts to the public is “going rogue.” The Golden Gate National Park Service and NASA Climate accounts followed suit. A Scientists’ March on Washington is now being organized.

Trump–back to using his personal Twitter account–says he’ll send in feds if Chicago doesn’t fix ‘horrible carnage going on’

Congress

House
Science Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) suggests people bypass
the media and get their news “directly from the president.”

Senator Ed Markey and Representative Ted Lieu have filed identical bills that would prevent the President from launching a nuclear first strike without a declaration of war by Congress

The Most Dangerous Bill You’ve Never Heard Of Just Passed The House

Last,
week, under the cover of a media bliss-out except among Koch funded
right-wing channels, the House of Representatives passed a bill which
would effectively repeal future standard setting under every important
environmental, public health, consumer protection, labor standards,
occupational safety and civil rights law on the books.

The bill,
called the REINS Act, requires that any future major regulation adopted
by an Executive Agency — say a new toxic chemical standard required by
the recently enacted Chemical Safety Act, or a new consumer protection
rule about some innovative but untested kind of food additive — must be
approved by a specific resolution in each House of Congress within 70
days to take effect.

Corrections

Yesterday, I’d said that both Tillerson and Pompeo were confirmed, but Tillerson merely cleared the committee vote and still faces a floor vote.

I have seen a lot of people talking about the issues that were removed from the White House website. What I have seen little discussion of (or any, tbh) is what’s gone up in their place. There are exactly six issues now listed:

  • America First Energy Plan
  • America First Foreign Policy
  • Bringing Back Jobs And Growth
  • Making Our Military Strong Again
  • Standing Up For Our Law Enforcement Community
  • Trade Deals Working For All Americans

Just those headings should be terrifying enough: between the focus on state violence and the coded “America First” white ultranationalism, this is an unabashedly, literally fascist platform. But when you dive into the content, it becomes even more clear:

  • “Peace through strength will be at the center of that foreign policy.”
  • “[W]e will rebuild the American military.”
  • “President Trump is committed to reversing this trend [of a military that is marginally smaller in some areas than it was in 1991], because he knows that our military dominance must be unquestioned.”
  • “The world will be more peaceful and more prosperous with a stronger and more respected America.”
  • “Our military needs every asset at its disposal to defend America. We cannot allow other nations to surpass our military capability. The Trump Administration will pursue the highest level of military readiness.”
  • “For too long, Americans have been forced to accept trade deals that put the interests of insiders and the Washington elite over the hard-working men and women of this country.”
  • “The Trump Administration will be a law and order administration.”
  • “Our job is not to make life more comfortable for the rioter, the looter, or the violent disrupter.”
  • “President Trump is committed to building a border wall[.]”
  • “[Trump] is dedicated to enforcing our border laws, ending sanctuary cities, and stemming the tide of lawlessness associated with illegal immigration.”
  • “The dangerous anti-police atmosphere in America is wrong. The Trump Administration will end it.”

This is fascism. This is literally, unhyperbolically fascism. If you do not find this utterly terrifying down to the marrow of your bones, it is because

either

you do not think fascism will come for you and the people you love, or you have paid absolutely no attention to historical precedent about how these people operate and what their ultimate goals are.

Fascism does not stomp up to you, shouting its five-point plan for how it’s going to get rid of the Jews and the Muslims and the queers

the Black people

and the disabled people and the (”wrong kind of”) immigrants and and everybody else who stands in the way of a white nationalist state. It sidles up. It puts its arm around your shoulder. It says, “I am going to make you strong.” It says, “I am going to make you proud.” It says, “I am going to make you succeed, because I know exactly who’s been keeping you from all the things you know you deserve.”

This administration is telling us exactly who they are.

We need to believe them.

You know, I hadn’t even looked at the new website but you’re absolutely right – this is terrifying, and this is textbook.

do kuroko even tho i havent finished it yet

PS spoilers

1. I would give Momoi more depth, she’s just the stereotypical boob~ character, is “in love~” with Kuroko but never shows it, she just says that she is. The writers just kind of gave her a super nagging personality and big boobs and that’s it?? I feel bad for her

2. I know that sports animes are supposed to be action packedbut really?? 8+ episodes is too long to cover a 40 minute long basketball game. seriously

3. Because the games took FOREVER, the characters were never really described all that deeply? With the exception to a few on Kuroko’s team, no one is really ever covered. It’s all just accepted that they play basketball really well, not why they play or how they became so good at basketball, and that’s a shame because I LIVE for backstories (side note: yes they explain Aomine and Akashi pretty well but Murasakibara and Midorima (who is my fave) are just kind of. there)

4. This one’s kind of nit-picky but the SHADING. HOLY SHIT. I cannot get over how they shaded it. I know that’s how the artist did it in the book but anime is, you know, animated!! so you don’t need to shade it like that. They’re all high schoolers and they look like they have perpetual neck beard.

5. Lastly, I’d probably change the way the Kiseki no Sedai dealt with Aomine’s depression at not finding a worthyopponent. Like he started acting all upset that he’ll never find an equal or even anybody that was better than him at basketball and it’s like. honey. you are 12 years old (and I wish I was exaggerating but no. he is actually 12 when he starts to feel this way) and it’s like?? babe there may not be anyone that you can find within your same school year but there are SO MANY basketball players, even just a year or two older than you that are better than you are. So get off your high horse and just chillax for a bit. (Also they just kind of retreated from him and stopped talking to him instead of supporting him through his depression and helping him cope with what he was feeling. The only one who kept talking to him was Momoi and all she did was nag the whole time, nagging doesn’t help most people who are depressed, sorry)

Ok that was longer than I thought it was going to be I apologize
