“Dean!” Sam’s voice rang with a deafening roar. The alpha hated using this tone with his brother; Dean always sulked after being forced to stop and listen, but as the mark took control, Sam found no other recourse to grab the attention away from the darkness racing inside of Dean.
Not that it did any good. Dean’s rage forced onward unabated. Sam grabbed his brother driving him back, but the mark gave the omega strength beyond an alpha. Sam fell crashing to the ground as his brother forced by.
“Dean! Dean! Stop! You’ve got to stop this!”
His brother stopped for a moment and turned; darkened eyes flashing with lust – bloodlust.
Sam almost felt small at his brother’s glare, but he stepped forward. “Dean, stop this. This mark can’t control you. You can stop.”
Dean only snarled.
Sam grabbed Dean’s arm and shoved the sleeve up. “This mark is important to you? You’re letting it take over? What about us, Dean? What about everything else?” He forced his brother into the wall and moved lower to his wrist. “What about this mark? Hmm? Do you remember how you got it?”
His brother remained silent but made no effort to remove himself. Sam continued, “I do, Dean. Hell, I remember everything. You were eight and stupid as hell. You thought swinging across the beams in the barn was a great idea. Lots of fun until you went crashing into the floor with a broken wrist. Bones healed, but the scar remained.”
Sam moved to his brother’s right hand. “And this one.” He gave a sour laugh. “You beat up that bully who wouldn’t stop teasing me. I told you that I could handle it, but being the thick skull you are, you wouldn’t stand down. Even after the dozen times Cas has healed you, this little mark on your finger remains.”
This time the younger brother grabbed the left arm and pointed. “Your first hunt. You were so proud that dad finally took you along. You were a little eager with the gun and got nicked surging forward too soon. Stupid rookie mistake but you were so damn proud of that scar cause you still got the bastard. We stayed up many nights as you recounted every second.”
Sam’s hand hovered over Dean’s collar; one final mark mostly covered under several layers rested underneath. Small, not noticeable – placed there for reasons. Dean had insisted they complete the act. Sam had always been his world; this culminated his devotion. But he never wanted his biological make-up to define him so it remained hidden from the world. Only Sam knew of this mark; his knowledge so intimate it sent chills down his spine.
“What about this mark, Dean?” Sam said barely above a whisper. “Doesn’t it mean more to you? To us?”
Sam’s grazed the mark – his mating mark. It had meant so much to him that Dean had insisted to mate and become tied for eternity as one. His sweet, badass omega overcame his disgust with alpha/omega stereotypes to complete with him. He kissed it softly remembering the night and praying it would be enough. Hoping their tie would be enough to break whatever hold was on him.
The alpha eyed Dean. “Tell me this mark – our mark – means nothing, and I will leave you to your destruction.” He spoke softer and less demanding. “But if it does, you’ve got to work with me, man. I can’t help you if you won’t talk to me.”
Sam wondered if he had gotten through to his brother, and he watched with almost strained hope as his mate lowered his head. They stood there silent for several minutes before Dean’s head lifted. Tears pooled in his green eyes.
“Sammy?”
